Julian Ballen
Dwayne Ballen is an award winning journalist and television sportscaster. His upcoming book, based on this blog, will be published next spring. Julian Ballen, his son, was diagnosed with high functioning autism at the age of four. He attends the Lakeview School(Durham, NC).
Julian is a gifted artist. His favorite subjects come from the animal kingdom. He has a deep love of animals, his favorite is the lion. His other interests include; Disney World, animated movies, Egyptian mythological creatures and traveling. He and a group of his friends are currently working on a movie short.
They reside in Durham, NC with Julian’s mother, Martina Ballen who is chair of the Autism Society of North Carolina’s board, and his younger brother, Jared. Dwayne often speaks to groups about being the father of a child with autism. The Ballen family hopes that everyone develops a better understanding and appreciation for persons with autism and the gifts they have to share with the world.
